Chen, 22, was born on May 5, 1999, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the United States. His father originated from Laibin, Guangxi, and his mother from Beijing. His father is a research scientist whereas, his mother is a medical translator.

There are six members in his family. He resides with the other four older siblings: Alice, Janice, Tony, and Colin.
